Thursday's Quick Tips

In this Thursday's Quick Tips my focus was on Kool Aid.

Turns out the drink we give our children in its raw form will clean just about anything.

It can be used to clean the dishwasher. Just put a package in the detergent section and run a cycle. (I would suggest the lemonade flavor as opposed to one of the flavors with a stronger dye color.)

It can be used to clean a toilet. Pour a package in the bowl. Use a brush to swish around. Leave it for about 10 minutes then flush.

You can also use Kool Aid as a dye. It is a safe dye for Easter eggs. You can also add it to paint.

One of my favorite dye uses is to create finger paint for children. Use plain yogurt and add different colors of Kool Aid. Your kids will love it and it won't hurt them if they eat it!!!

Jazzy Green Beans

This is a quick and easy way to jazz up a boring can of green beans.

I use a 2 to 1 ratio. For every can of green beans I add half a can of Rotel. But I like mine a little "jazzier" than probably the average person.

Thursday's Quick Tips

If your cell phone comes in contact with water, quickly remove it from the water. Power it down. Remove the battery and then submerge it in dry uncooked rice. Leave it covered in the rice for at least 24 hours(longer is always better) before reconnecting the battery.

The easiest way to clean up a dropped egg is to cover it with salt and wait 15 minutes. The egg consistency will turn such that it can be easily cleaned.

Shaving cream will remove motor oil from carpet.  Cover the spot with shaving cream and rub into the spot. Leave for about 30 seconds then clean thoroughly with warm water. Cover the spot with something absorbent and a weight for a couple hours.

Shamrock Origami

This is a simple Shamrock Origami project for beginners. It can be made with 3 or 4 leaves.

You will need 3 or 4 rectangular pieces of paper (in this diagram I created a 4" shamrock and used 3 pieces 2" X 4"). I also created a stem for the shamrock.

1.  Take one of the rectangles and fold it in half as shown. Then fold the top flap out again, along the line as seen above.

2. Your model should look like image 1 above now.  Flip over and fold the edges along the lines as diagrammed and your model will look like image 3 above.

 3. Turn the top points in and make a small diagonal crease at the center of the heart shape. This crease will help the leaf hold its shape. Flip over. You have now created one leaf of the shamrock.

4. Follow steps 1-3 three times for a 3 leaf shamrock or four times for a 4 leaf shamrock.

5.  Join leaves together with glue or pin. (I used a pushpin because I am using my shamrocks on a bulletin board)

Strawberry Spongecake

Made EASY!

This is the easiest and quickest dessert possible but my family always thinks it is such a delicacy.

I get the pre-made sponge cakes that you can get in the bakery of your supermarket. I'm sure a homemade cake would taste much better but sometimes at the end of a long day you just want a treat that you don't have to slave over.

I cover the sponge cake with a hearty spoon full of frozen strawberries. I get the pre-sweetened ones but it would still be wonderful without the extra sugar.

Lastly a dollop of whipped cream.

You have a pretty and yummy dessert in only seconds.

Valentine Toe Nails

I rarely ever paint my fingernails but I always have my toenails painted.

Feet just aren't pretty so I'll do anything to add a little interest and glamour. Besides it is easy to cover them with socks if they look ridiculous.

These are my Valentine Nails.

I painted the entire nail with 2 layers of cotton candy pink and then painted the tips with a bright red.

It is hard to see the tips in the above picture. This picture shows them a little better. Please excuse the picture quality.
