Friday's Fret - Temperature Controlled Trunk

fret

[fret] (noun): an irritated state of mind; annoyance; vexation.

Friday's Frets are my little rants about something that annoys me, most often without reason. We all have them, those little peeves that you may or may not notice.

My complaint for this week is just an observation or maybe a question, no definitely a suggestion...I just need to get it to the right people.

Why doesn't the trunk of my car have a temperature control feature?

I haven't researched it so it is possible luxury cars are equipped with this feature.  But unfortunately I won't be driving a luxury car any time soon.

Here in Arkansas, the summers are hot and the winters are cold.  So anything I put in the trunk in the summer will melt and in the winter will freeze.  Personally this applies most often to groceries.  But it's a problem with luggage too. Melted deodorant and lipstick cause big pains. Word to the wise...do not let any of your technology equipment get too hot.  This applies to computers, tablets and phones. You also don't want to let that equipment get too cold.

It doesn't seem like would be a terribly complicated addition, right?  So why isn't standard?  Should I contact manufacturers?

"The Intern"

Firstly, let me confirm that I have not been compensated in any way for this movie review.  As always this is my blissful opinion and my opinion only.

I have been anxiously awaiting the release of the movie "The Intern" since I saw the first trailer on TV weeks ago.
www.theinternmovie.com

I knew I would see it if only because it has a couple of my favorites.  And who would have ever guessed they would be in a movie together.  Robert DeNiro & Anne Hathaway!

Recently, I had the pleasure of spending an afternoon with my husband and he was kind enough to accompany me to this movie.  I enjoyed every second of it and I think he would agree.

I doubt it wins any awards but it is definitely a comfortable way to spend an hour or so.  It will make you laugh and even feel for the actors.

I walked away thinking I would love to have the opportunity to work in an environment similar to the one portrayed in this movie. Teamwork, creativity and fast-pace! Being a female in what seems like a man's world, I can somewhat relate to Anne's character. It is terribly hard to find a comfortable mix of home and work when you are forced to be a working mom. There is always the guilt of what you are missing with your family.

In regards to the primary point of the storyline, Senior Interns, I truly hope we never take for granted the experience of our elders.

Things change but experience always adds wisdom!

Go watch it or wait until it comes out on DVD.  Either way I guarantee you won't regret the time spent.

It's Fall Y'all!

What an absolutely beautiful day in Arkansas!  The weather is perfect today to drive around and look at the fall colors as they begin to shine, take a stroll through the meadow or just sit on the front porch and watch the squirrels play.

I want to share this years Fall Wreath with you guys.

Any of you that have followed my blog for any length of time know how thrifty I am.  I put this wreath together for around $10.

Items Used
  • wire wreath form ($2 - thrifted)
  • burlap ribbon ($6 - WalMart)
  • fall ribbon ($1 - Dollar Tree)
  • fall follage ($1 - Dollar Tree)
The "D" is cut from cardboard. Told you guys...I'm cheap.  I drew it, cut it out, then painted it orange and sprinkled it with glitter. Really you can't tell.  And fortunately my front door also has a glass outside door so the weather isn't an issue.

Wifi Assist COULD COST YOU BIG BUCKS!

TURN IF OFF!

The new update (iOS 9) for iPhones was released recently.  There are many updates that are wonderful but one has the potential to run your monthly rate through the roof.

WiFi Assist

In theory "WiFi Assist" is a novel idea but for many us that don't have unlimited data plans it can quickly cause substantial charges.

How does it work?

This feature is activated by default on the new iOS9 version.  It is meant to increase efficiency when browsing the web.  If the device finds your wifi signal weak it will jump to cellular data usage, which can result in charges.

How to turn off Wifi Assist?

Easy...

  1. Choose the Settings options from home screen.
  2. Select Cellular.
  3. Scroll to the bottom and deactivate Wifi Assist.
SETTINGS > CELLULAR > WIFI ASSIST

Rules for Washing Jeans

No matter the cycle or detergent, machine washing and drying any fabric is abrasive.  So here are some rules for keeping those jeans comfy and looking newer longer.

  •  Only wash your jeans when they need it.

    • As a matter of fact I find them more comfortable with the second wear.  If they don’t need it, don’t do it!

  • Zip that Zipper.

    • Zip all zippers and fasten all buttons and snaps.  Not only does the tumbling in the machine cause the zippers to rub the fabric causing wear and possible snags but if those zippers get damaged your favorite pair of jeans become next weeks craft project. Also don’t over fill the washer.  They need room to move freely.

  • Inside Out.

    • To minimize color loss, turn jeans inside out before putting them in the wash and leave them this way until dry.

  • Color-Preserving Detergent.

    • Special detergents for dark colors really do work.  Many contain agents that deactivate the chlorine in the water that fades dark colors.

  • Don't Over-Dry.

    • Of course, hand washing and line drying are the safest methods but let’s be realistic. No one has time for that!  When using the using the blessings of a machine the best rule of thumb is cool is best.  Wash them in cold water and limit the time in the dryer to what is absolutely necessary.  If possible use low temperature drying until only damp and then lay flat to complete the drying process.
